Dr. Jack Bynes received his B.A. degree in bacteriology and zoology from the University of Connecticut. He earned his D.M.D. (Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree from Tufts University. After graduating from Tufts he served in the United States Air Force as a Captain in the Dental Corps in Karamursel, Turkey. After leaving active duty, Bobbi and Jack settled in South Windsor where Jack established his first dental practice. Bobbi and Jack purchased the Coventry property, now known as Bynes’ Falls, in 1970. In 1975, Jack opened his second practice in what was once an 18th century grist mill on the property. The location was perfect for creating a practice devoted to treatment and prevention of dental fear. Within one year, the South Windsor practice was sold so that Jack could devote all his energy to the Coventry practice.

Jack is a member of the American Dental Association, the Connecticut State Dental Association, the Hartford and Tolland County Dental Societies, the Doctors Organization for Conscious Sedation and The Academy of Laser Dentistry. He has passed proficiency examinations and is certified to use dental lasers. Jack’s reputation in dentistry has been built upon providing care for people who fear going to the dentist. He has written a dental textbook and writes articles for several national dental journals. He is the founder and president of dentalfear.com an online company that provides information to the public and trains other dentists interested in treating patients with dental fears. He also lectures to various dental groups and has been involved in research on dental fears. Among his hobbies are carpentry, woodworking, painting, writing, photography and working on sports cars. He has had several photography exhibits and has written an unpublished novel. Many of his photographs are displayed throughout the office.

Bobbi Bynes, managing partner, graduated from Manchester High School. She received her B.S. degree in elementary education from the University of Connecticut. She taught 5th grade in Scituate, Massachusetts while Jack was a student at Tufts. Among her interests are cooking, reading, traveling and collecting tribal weavings. Her favorite travel destinations are the American West, Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean. Before she became a managing partner in the dental practice, Bobbi had her own import business which specialized in Turkish objects d’ art. Bobbi and Jack have been married since 1963 and have three grown sons and four grandchildren.

Erin Merrow is originally from Springfield, Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts. Erin has been with us since 1994 and is our resident paraprofessional. Her former training with Clinique makes her ideal for working with our patients who are interested in improving their images. Erin’s duties include cosmetic whitening of teeth, construction of temporary crowns and bridges, impression taking, lab work, x-rays, night guards and mouth protectors for our athlete patients. In addition, she is vice-president of sales and marketing for dentalfear.com, an online company founded by Dr. Bynes. Erin enjoys walking, traveling and taking care of her two young daughters. She and her husband, Terry, reside in Woodstock.

Arguably, the hardest part of running a dental practice is assembling (and keeping) a team that is highly skilled and people oriented.  Our staff is highly educated and trained.  Most importantly they are sensitive to the special needs of our patients.  We are blessed to have the privilege of working everyday with these people and are proud to have you know our dental family.
